Elaine Clayton


Elaine Clayton is an internationally known author, artist, teacher, intuitive healing arts practitioner and Reiki Master in NYC, CT and Atlanta. Her books on intuitive intelligence and creativity include Making Marks: Discover the Art of Intuitive Drawing / Simon and Schuster and Illuminara Intuitive Journal. She is also the author and illustrator of many books for children, including Pulitzer Prize winning author Jane Smiley and Gregory Maguire, author of the popular novel the smash hit Broadway play is based on, Wicked. Other new titles include books in the trendy A Little Bit Of series, A Little Bit Of Angels and A Little Bit Of Faries (Sterling 2018).

Elaine’s art is both figurative and abstract, she explores themes of intuition, spirituality and empathic sensing. Her most recent painting series, Earth Changes: Pole Shift is about the polarization in nature and human nature at a time of extremes. Elaine teaches courses to a wide variety of learners (including adults with learning differences, children with autism, at-risk youth, privately for healing arts practitioners and individuals of all professions) on the link between intuitive intelligence and the development of empathy and creative exploration and empowerment.

She has taught and given author talks at her studio, in libraries, schools and museums. Elaine’s first New York City art-literary agent was Whit Stillman, the famous independent film maker (Metropolitan, Love and Friendship, Last Days of Disco, Damsels in Distress). Elaine has worked and taught at a Cesar Chavez Migrant Camp and as Artist-in-Residence in public schools; in progressive, independent schools, The Paideia School in Atlanta, GA and The Atrium School in Boston, MA, most notably; as visiting author on behalf of Random House/Crown in NYC schools public and private and at the Dahesh Museum and other museums and libraries on the East Coast predominantly. Elaine earned her MFA at School of Visual Arts in New York City.
